CREATIVE BRAIN DUMP FOR UTA
WORKING LOGLINE
Finally a competitive fitness format for men. Men with Heart. Men with guts. Men…..with kids. Dad Bod is a comedically irreverent competition format for dads who have prioritized taking care of baby, wife and relationships over their own body and health.
Attitude
The format is NOT a Biggest Loser format about going from Dad Bod to Rad Bod - its quite possible the winner will end the show with a dad bod visually not too dissimilar to the one he started with. But what will change is whats under the hood - endurance, strength, cholesterol and general attitude towards health and fitness (think of the biometrics tracked on Super Size Me) - by the end of the series, all the dads will have a better relationship with health and care for their dad bods as well as they care for - and for the benefit of - their kids. No matter who wins the show, all the kids win when their dads end their journey more fit and able to run around with their kid and be around for decades more.
Preliminary format breakdown
Meet the dads (ep 1 only)
Test their health, fitness, stamina and biometrics to establish a series baseline. (ep 1 only)
For contextual reference, if this were biggest loser it would simply be weighing them - this series is more comprehensive as the intent isnt “stop being fat” its “start being healthy so you can live a long life with for your kids.”
In lieu of “trainers” the show has a pair of hosts (husband/wife? Iconic Dads?) and each episode taps experts in a field associated with the weeks challenge to serve as the “trainer/coach” of the week.
Training
Mini challenges to win cash/prizes for the kids/family.
Major challenge to determine who goes home, or who is at risk of going home.
the Major Challenge puts people at risk, perhaps we measure bio metrics again and the least improved player based on those metrics goes home.
SAMPLE episodic challenge themes
NOTE: This is not an IN THE GYM series, nor is it MTVs CHALLENGE type of endurance and strength competition. Tonally this delicately weaves humor and heart designed for truly equal co-viewing. As such each weeks challenge is playfully tied to relatable tropes of fatherhood/parenting.
Tough Fodder - Like a Tough Mudder, but for Fodder's. In this endurance and strength challenge, dads will run an abbreviated mudder race going through mud falls, up and over walls, under ropes and through rivers of mud trying to make it to the end in the fastest time… but once a dad always a dad, and these dads will have to run this race with a (fake) baby in a chest or back mounted baby harness. But its not just about speed - each fake baby has sensors to track any trauma - and at the end of the race, once times are revealed, we begin to reveal time penalties. X minutes added to time for any trauma the sensors picked up during their run.
Daddy Daughter Dances - In this cardio-coordination challenge, we’re prepping pops for the daddy daughter dance. But this isn’t a hands on the hips slow dance, these days face a 2 day dancing bootcamp to prep them for an exhibition akin to DWTS rehearsal packages…but on steroids. Culminating with a dance performance to be judged by guest judges & partner/kids (who can vote for anyone other than their dad/partner)
CASTING BODY TYPES
Skinny, Fat or Seemingly fit - all body types are welcome as this series is about improving whats under the hood.
Strength - Stamina - Hearth Health - Mental Acuity - Weekly Growth
Next steps:
SAUL - develop series. Would love to integrate spouses/partners and kids into the series when we can.
SAUL/UTA - Who is the right production partner who will understand this is NOT a Biggest Loser-esque show. It’s a heartwarming yet funny show (Dream host/EP to set the tone would be Chris Pratt & his dad bod turned rad bod, back to dad bod when not shooting) even if he’s pie in the sky, his persona is the tone.
UTA - Talent. any initial names come to mind? If so I can cater creative to their sensibility. If not, we can revisit when creative is further downstream.
Buyers - This should be a big network/premium streamer, but also scale down (boo) if we had to for cablers. Also the dad bod is very international so we might consider talking to the couple international buyers we’ve sold to recently.
