….The Story Of How We Met
Background
It begins with a MEET CUTE. Whether or not you believe in fate, luck or love at first sight, every romance has to start somewhere.
Throughout literature, theatre, film and television stories have long ignited a spark of hope for would be lovers by crafting incredible tales of unexpected and unlikely romantic pairings.
In more recent years, the made for TV movie of the week has exploded in popularity with craven fans holding watch parties ready to soak in their favorite Movie Of The Week stars in a brand new story full of all the delicious camp, cheese and romance the writers could muster.
Premise
Sometimes it’s the real life stories of romance from the viewers watching that can be more jaw dropping and heart swelling than the fiction on the screen. Enter MEET CUTE. An original anthology format where the Movie Of The Week genre celebrates its fans by pulling love stories from civilian couples on couches and bringing them to life as short story MOW featurettes starring their favorite genre stars.
How It Works
Each close ended episode of MEET CUTE tells the unbelievable love story of three civilian couples as told by the couples themselves.
Sitting side-by-side in a tableaux reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally or Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the loving pair shares their incredible tele-ready true life love story straight to camera.
At strategic moments in the story, the show dips from side by side interview to full romcom recreations of their story with favorite MOW talent playing them in their very own story. Inspired by the likes of DRUNK HISTORY, the recreations might be fun-with-real-audio, or they may be original mini-scripts based on the couples story.
After shifting from the side by side interviews into the recreation, we stick with the recreations for the bulk of the act, going back to the couple only at strategic story telling points.
PLAyful GENRE BENDING STORY TELLING
Differentiating itself from other recreation formats, MEET CUTE leans heavily into the camp and playfulness of the genre.
Some examples of this include:
Mature featured MEET CUTE couple (LEFT)
Recreation Actors playing them (RIGHT)
PERIOD PIECES - To ensure no great story gets left behind, the recreations harken back to the period during which the story happened regardless of the current age of the couple. Grandma & Grampas story might play out with actors in their teens or twenties.
HE SAID/SHE SAID - Not all stories are remembered exactly the same way. When couples can’t agree with who “friend requested” whom first, or there’s a dispute as to how the first date went, the format allows to playfully cut back to scenes as we rewatch them told by the other-halve’s perspective.
SUPERNATURAL/SPIRITUAL - MEET CUTE doesn’t edit the stories even if they fall into hard to believe. If a couple believes their union was made possible in part to the ghost of a relative, the story will reflect that. We are telling their stories, not judging them.
